This photograph was taken during the 1970s and is, according to the note on the back of it, a picture of ‘Deseronto’s oldest house’. Unfortunately, there is no information on the picture about where exactly this house was.
Does anyone recognise this building? Can you help us pinpoint its location?
UPDATE: We’ve had two suggestions and the house is on the east side of Fourth Street – below is a photo of how it looks today.
Updated October 4th 2011 to add that the current owners bought the house in 1962 when there were two fuses in the whole house and one cold water pipe to the kitchen and no drain. The house is constructed from 18-inch barn timbers and hand-made nails.

I believe this house still exists on the east side of Fourth Street between Thomas and Main. It has since been reclad in aluminum or vinyl siding.

Thanks Paul! Gail at the Town Hall has suggested that it is 94 Fourth Street, which I’m guessing is the same house. Whether it actually IS Deseronto’s oldest house is possibly another matter…

This little old saltbox house was occupied by Frank and Maud Covert when I was a young boy in the early 1950s. Mrs. Covert (nee Bassett) was the sister of Mrs. Alvy Joyce.
Mrs. Joyce lived next door to my parents on Main St. just east of 4th St. at that time. She was a lovely older lady, and one of my favorite people when I was 4 or 5 years old.
I have also heard that this house was one of the oldest homes in the town. it had that reputation many years ago.

This was my great grandparents home, Frank & Maud Covert. My father remembers going here every summer and believes his grandfather Frank built the home. There was no running water and my great grandmother always cooked breakfast pastries on the wood stove every morning.
